PROJECT: CONCORD NH
We recently had the opportunity to transform a basement space at a home in Concord, NH, that had previously been used as a hockey room. With the clients’ kids now off to college, the family wanted to repurpose the room into a state-of-the-art, bespoke home theater where they could build new family memories together.
DESIGNING THE PERFECT SPACE
Our first step was to evaluate the room and understand the family’s vision. We collaborated closely with the homeowners, listening to their preferences and aspirations for the space. Using precise room measurements and detailed CAD designs, we presented a few options before settling on a bespoke home theater design that would perfectly utilize the space.
OVERCOMING CHALLENGES
The basement room posed several challenges, including low ceilings, limited space, and HVAC ducts that interfered with optimal speaker placement. Additionally, the absence of a heating/AC unit in the basement meant we had to build out the walls and add multiple layers of insulation, further reducing the space we had to work with. These hurdles called for creative solutions and collaboration.
A HARMONIOUS COLLABORATION
Despite the challenges, our team was dedicated to creating a space that exceeded expectations. Working in collaboration with the homeowners, the electrician, the builder and our interior designer, who curated the color schemes and aesthetics to match the family’s vision, resulted in a meticulously designed home theater space.
BESPOKE HOME THEATER SETUP
The heart of this home theater is the Dolby Atmos 7.2.4 surround sound system, designed to deliver an immersive audio experience. Here’s a breakdown of the components we installed:
Kaleidescape movie player- James loudspeaker fronts, surrounds, and in-ceiling speakers
- James loudspeaker subs and amps
- Marantz separates
- Sony laser projector
- Screen Innovations Pro Screen
- Control4 remote and light switches (with six different lighting scenes)
- Custom acoustic treatment on all walls for enhanced sound quality
- Acoustic ceiling tiles with starlight for ambience
- Premium leather chairs by Fortress Seating
- Concession stand complete with a popcorn maker, adding the perfect touch of theater magic
THE GRAND FINALE
The end result was spectacular, and our clients couldn’t have been happier. The project was completed in time for them to host their Derby horse racing party. The family now have the ultimate entertainment space. Even after the project’s completion, our client often reaches out to express how this home theater has become his favorite room, a testament to the success of the project.
